I feel down at a shopping mall can I still sue?

A couple months back I feel in a slip and fall type of incident at my local shopping mall in southern California. I hurt my back and mall security came to help me get up. A couple days ago I went to the hospital because of my back pain and they diagnosed me and said because of my back injury i have developed some kind of internal illness and injury. The mall security never asked me if I wanted to file a report. Can I still pursue legal actions to help pay for my medical bills and surgery?
if there is a spill on the floor and i fell because of the spill that is proof of negligence because they did not provide a safe place for people to shop. They should have caught it.

Without filing a report, it is going to be difficult to prove that your back injury was caused by the fall in the mall. Secondly you will have to prove that the mall did something negligent. Just you falling does not prove negligence.
